Elected County Supervisor,
District 5

District 5 covers a large expanse of land within Trinity County, encompassing the communities of Hympom, Mad River, Ruth, Hetten Valley, Kettenpom, Zenia, Trinity Pines/Post Mountain and a portion of Hayfork. Several mountain ranges separate District 5 from the county seat of Weaverville, which makes for an interesting challenge to represent the district at the county level.

The Supervisor’s position entails being responsive to constituent concerns & issues along with presenting updates that affect the district and the County. A Supervisor is also one of five members of a  “Governing Body” who are responsible to set policy, make financial decisions on behalf of the County, engage as a legislative or judicial body when an item presents itself, and have an understanding of the complexities of the legal requirements of holding an elected office. While the Board of Supervisors traditionally meets on the first & third Tuesday of each month, there are additional County meetings scheduled throughout the year, as well as the separate Board, Commissions and Committee assignments that the Board members participate in.

I have the honor & pleasure of representing Trinity County on several Boards, Commissions & Committees. Those include: Regional Council of Rural Counties (RCRC); Northern Rural Employment Training Consortium (NoRTEC); PSA 2 Area Agency on Aging Executive Board; Superior California Economic District (SCED); Trinity County First Five Commission; Highway 36 Commission; Environmental Services Joint Powers Authority (ESJPA).

Some of the on-going challenges I feel are facing Trinity County include:
The increasing commitment of general fund dollars for debt repayment through 2017.

Maintaining some semblance of public service with diminishing funds.

Outside influences, whether State or Federal legislations, regulations or funding.

Continuing to be actively engaged with Congress for Secure Roads & Schools funding.

Continuing to be actively engaged with the managers of the federal lands within our County.

Continuing to be actively engaged with internal and external plans for Trinity County water.

Public safety and adequate funding for its needs has been and remains my top priority as District 5 Supervisor. Keeping my district informed and involved is also a high priority for me. It has been a pleasure to represent you, and I look forward to working with and for you during 2012.
