COVID-19 Vaccine Information and Resources

Currently authorized vaccines in the United States are highly effective at protecting vaccinated people against symptomatic and severe COVID-19 and a growing body of evidence suggests that fully vaccinated people are less likely to have symptomatic infection and potentially less likely to transmit SARS-CoV-2 to others.

How do vaccines work?

COVID-19 vaccines teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. It typically takes a few weeks after vaccination for the body to build protection (immunity) against the virus. That means it is possible a person could still get COVID-19 just after vaccination, because the vaccine has not had enough time to build immunity.

What we know

  • COVID-19 vaccines are effective at preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe illness and death.
